BIOGRAPHY OF ALEXANDER V. SHIRINOV
Alexander Shirinov was born on May 3, 1976, in Gagra,
Georgia, and grew up in Akhaltsikhe, Georgia
and Baku, Azerbaijan. In 1997, he earned a
Bachelor's degree in Instrument-Making (with a minor in Biomedical Engineering)
from the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy (University
of Technology) and
received the diploma with honours (summa cum laude). Shirinov earned Master
degree in Biomedical Engineering, Instrument-Making and received the diploma
with honours (summa cum laude) from the Azerbaijan State
Oil Academy
in 1999. During his study at the University Shirinov earned numerous awards at
competitions on Physics, Programming and at student scientific conferences.
From 1998 till 2000, he worked at the Open Society Institute - Azerbaijan as an Advisor - Biomedical Engineer,
installing and servicing medical equipment and consulting technical staff at
hospitals in the Baku
city. During this time Shirinov worked by contracts with Biomed and BTS
companies and repaired medical equipment at different hospitals in the Baku city. In 2000
Shirinov successfully competed for a PhD fellowship scholarship in
Instrument-Making and started his PhD work at the Azerbaijan State
Oil Academy.
In 2001 Shirinov started to work at the Institute
of Microrobotics and Control
Engineering, Oldenburg University,
Germany. At the
University of Oldenburg he has developed haptic
interfaces for the control of microrobots, he performed integration of force
micro sensors into end-effectors of microrobots, and realised nanohandling of micro
objects and nanotubes in a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The haptic
device and system for the control of microrobots were presented at several International
Exhibitions and described in journal articles and conference papers.
From 2004 till 2007 Alexander Shirinov worked at the Institute
of Construction
and Development
of Microsystems (KEmikro), Aachen University of Technology (RWTH),
where he obtained his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering. The topic of his
Ph.D. thesis was the Development of Pressure Sensors from
Polyvinylidenefluorid. Now Alexander Shirinov works as a research and development engineer at one company in Hessen, Germany.
